Market Overview
Tumor ablation is a minimally invasive procedure used in cancer treatment. It involves the use of extreme heat to destroy cancerous cells. Also, it’s used for treating tumors of the kidney, lung, liver and pancreas. The procedure involves the insertion of a probe through the skin and into the tumor. To insert the probe, a computed tomography (CT) scan or ultrasound guidance. After this, a heating source is used to heat the probe. Then the temperature of the probe is raised to around 100 degrees Celsius to heat and destroy the tumor. The procedure is typically performed when the tumor is hard to reach or located near important structures. Other instances when tumor ablation may be used in when the patient doesn’t respond well to chemotherapy or the tumor has resurfaced after its surgical removal.
